My husband and I bought a house separately when we got married. It was originally to avoid living with his parents, to avoid conflicts, and to live together as a couple.
Last year, my mother-in-law passed away, and my father-in-law offered to take turns staying at his son's house every month. His three sons, considering that no one was taking care of him, readily agreed. My father-in-law prefers to stay at our house. Firstly, his son sticks to him and he also has a companion. Secondly, there are several elderly people in the community who enjoy playing chess, and he is not lonely during the day.
My husband and I usually have to work during the day, so we leave him alone at home. At night, he helps pick up our son and there is no friction when we live together. However, a while ago, I realized something was wrong. After getting intimate with my husband at night, I went out to the bathroom and found him sitting in the living room watching TV.
After mentioning this matter to his husband, he also began to pay attention. Several times, he intentionally came out to visit and found his father-in-law standing outside the door. He hurriedly said he couldn't sleep, so he took a walk in the living room. The husband asked his father-in-law to rest early, so the next day he bought a TV in his room. In this way, it seemed like it had been better for a while, and my father-in-law never went out again at night.
Last month, my father-in-law stayed at our house again. One night, my husband wanted to get intimate, but I always felt like there was someone outside. After opening the door a few times, there was no one outside, and my husband said I was too worried. That day, both of them were very disappointed and fell into a dull sleep. In the next few days, I will pay a little attention to whether my father-in-law's house still has lights. Every time, we have to wait for his lights to turn off before we can rest assured of our love.
However, what surprised me was that when I opened the door afterwards, I found my father-in-law wandering outside the door again. Seeing me open the door, he looked very flustered. I didn't know what to say for a moment, so I asked, Dad, he hasn't slept yet... He nodded awkwardly. Then he went back to his own room.
From then on, I always felt like there was a gap between me and my father-in-law. The two of us had a deep understanding and never got along alone. Only when his son was present would he say a few words to me. I feel very uncomfortable with the situation of people living together every day.
My husband is also very distressed about this, and in all sorts of helplessness, he proposed to his father to let him go back to his hometown to live. We usually go home a few more times and see him more. As soon as my father-in-law heard that he was going to drive him back, he got angry. To be honest, we were a bit uneasy about having my father-in-law live alone. But we don't know how to speak to him about this matter.
After my father-in-law got angry, he asked me if he was going too far in this way. As soon as his heart softened, he was left behind. Since then, my father-in-law has always gone to bed early. He never lingered in the living room again, nor did he watch TV in the living room. He had already prepared what kind of water to drink.
Nevertheless, at that critical moment, I always feel like someone is standing outside the door. I don't know when I can completely get rid of this shadow
