The prostate, like other tissues and organs in the human body, can also suffer from various diseases. There are four common types of diseases:
The first type is prostatic hyperplasia (or hypertrophy of the prostate). Such diseases are common among middle-aged and elderly men, and their incidence rate will increase with age. Research has found that prostate hyperplasia can occur in men over the age of 50, and about 95% of elderly men over the age of 80 have varying degrees of prostate hyperplasia.
The second category is prostate infectious diseases, including acute prostatitis, prostate abscess, chronic bacterial prostatitis, chronic non bacterial prostatitis, non-specific granulomatous prostatitis, chronic specific prostatitis, etc. This type of disease often occurs in young men. Among them, chronic prostatitis is the most common. According to statistics, among men aged 25 to 40, about 30% to 40% suffer from varying degrees of chronic prostatitis.
The third category is prostate tumors, including benign and malignant tumors of the prostate. Benign tumors such as prostate leiomyoma and prostate fibromyoma are very rare; Malignant tumors are mainly prostate cancer, while prostate sarcoma is rare.
The fourth type is prostate calculus, which refers to genuine stones formed within the prostatic acini or ducts, rather than urinary stones that remain in the prostate urethra. Most of them were found accidentally during physical examination without special clinical manifestations.
Understanding these types of prostate diseases and the characteristics of each type of disease can help in targeted examination and treatment.
