There are many "sperm killers" hidden in life, and I believe the one people hear the most about is Coca Cola spermicide, right? However, this rumor was later confirmed to be untrue. Although it is rumored that cola kills sperm, the harm brought by carbonated beverages such as cola is indeed considerable. The "sperm killer" to be introduced this time is not such a junk food, but one that is often eaten in daily life, and even has a health care function. So why do they kill sperm?
Celery
Celery has certain health benefits and is a recommended dish for patients with hypertension. However, eating more celery in men can inhibit the production of testosterone, thereby having a spermicidal effect and reducing sperm count. Foreign experimental studies have found that healthy and fertile young men who consume celery for several consecutive days have a significant decrease in sperm count, even to the point where it is difficult to conceive. This situation returns to normal a few months after stopping celery.
Seafood
Infertile men who eat four times a week or consume fresh Shanghai meals have a nearly 40% higher mercury content in their hair compared to men with normal reproductive function. Research has found that for infertile men, if they eat seafood meals with fish, shrimp, and crabs as the main dishes four or more times a week, the mercury content in their hair reaches 5.38ppm, nearly 40% higher than that of men with normal reproductive function, while for vegetarian men, the average mercury content in their hair is only 0.38ppm.
Dr. Leung Ka kang, President of the Hong Kong Reproductive Medicine Association, pointed out that it is currently uncertain how mercury can cause infertility, but it is believed that there is a correlation between the two. It is estimated that mercury can affect sperm motility and reduce sperm count. Therefore, it is recommended that men with infertility problems eat less fish and seafood with high mercury content. Marine heavy metals not only affect sperm, but long-term accumulation in the body can also damage health.
Tofu
Tofu has high nutritional value, with a protein absorption rate of up to 90% in the human body. However, a foreign survey found that men who eat soy products every day only have 41 million sperm per milliliter of semen, significantly lower than men who consume less soy products. If the number of sperm per milliliter of semen is less than 20 million, it is considered as low sperm concentration and prone to infertility.
If this study is linked to obese men, it will be more pronounced. Soybeans are rich in isoflavone phytoestrogens. If consumed excessively, it can affect the levels of male hormones in the body and have adverse effects on sperm production.
