For homosexuality, researchers have long conducted in-depth investigations and studies from the perspectives of biomedical, sociological, cultural folklore, and psychology. Recently, new research results showed that male homosexuality is innate, and this sexual orientation may come from the genes carried by the mother.
Homosexuality may be related to maternal genes and family ranking
According to a study in Italy, the genes inherited by a mother and the presence of multiple siblings are closely related to whether a person is homosexual, and these two factors may account for 20% of the factors leading to homosexuality.
Researchers from Padova University in northern Italy conducted a secret questionnaire survey on 98 homosexuals and 100 heterosexuality people, mainly about their sexual orientation as well as their siblings, cousins, parents' siblings, grandparents and other relatives.
Among homosexuals, 22 out of 396 male relatives on their mother's side are homosexuals, while only 12 out of 593 male relatives on their father's side are homosexuals. Among heterosexuality people, none of the 370 male relatives on the mother's side is gay, and 8 of the 604 male relatives on the father's side are gay.
Equally surprising is the connection between birth order and the likelihood of homosexuality. In a large family, people born in second, third, fourth, or later generations are more likely to be homosexual than the first, and those with older brothers are much more likely to be homosexual than those with older sisters.
Kona's research team said that in addition to genes, a person's sexual orientation is also influenced by social and cultural factors. They emphasized that in their survey sampling, over 79% of sexual orientation changes were not caused by the mother's genes or the number of siblings. Kona said that their research findings, even if further research confirms them in the future, are only a small piece of the mystery of the essence of human sexual characteristics.
