The earliest official records of lesbians began with Empress Chen of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. After Queen Chen fell out of favor, she was very lonely in the palace. It happened that a witch dressed as a man came to the palace. Therefore, Queen Chen and her partner secretly fell in love, and they slept together every day, just like a couple. After Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty learned about this matter, he was very angry. He believed that witches were evil spirits disturbing the palace, so he ordered them to be punished, deposed Empress Chen, and reprimanded her for "being a woman and a man," and more than 300 people were killed because of their involvement in this matter.
From this historical event, it can be seen that lesbians seriously violated feudal ethics and were despised by the society at that time. Perhaps many radical feminists believe that women who cannot obtain sexual satisfaction under feudal ethics simply want to find a physical object to vent. However, behind the ideological and cultural constraints of the time, both men and women who broke the moral code would be denounced by society, let alone two poor gay women.
Over time, through the Tang Dynasty's eclectic economic and cultural development, sexual culture also experienced a period of greater freedom. Until the reform and opening up in the last century, the sexual imprisonment in China was gradually broken.
Despite the traditional belief that sexual intercourse is the most harmonious between men and women, an increasing number of lesbians are slowly breaking this stereotypical norm.
