The World Health Organization (WHO) defines sexual health as "achieving the fulfillment and coordination of sexual behavior in physical, emotional, intellectual, and social aspects through enriching and improving personality, interpersonal communication, and love patterns.".
There are two main aspects of sexual disorders, one is functional, and the other is organic.
Functional disorders are often caused by mental and psychological factors. This is a psychosomatic disease. In addition to congenital physical defects, lack of or ignorance of sexual knowledge, disharmonious marital sexual relationships, unexpected events such as significant mental stimulation or blows, abnormal sexual behavior, and adverse environmental conditions can all lead to functional disorders.
Organic disorders are often caused by diseases, such as urinary system diseases, diabetes, etc. Sexual disorders can also occur after surgery or serious illness. Treatment must begin with the cause of the disease. Common drugs that cause drug-induced disorders include antipsychotic drugs such as chlorpromazine, perphenazine, fluphenazine, trifluoperazine, thiolidazine (methylthiazide), antidepressants such as promethazine, and antihypertensive drugs such as diuretics.
Chlorpromazine is commonly used in the treatment of schizophrenia, with good efficacy. However, it must be taken for a long time, and it is easy to relapse after stopping the drug. The most prominent problem caused by long-term medication is sexual dysfunction. Initially manifested as sexual apathy, loss of interest in sexual life, followed by premature ejaculation, difficulty ejaculating, and complete impotence.
Diazepam is a commonly used anti anxiety drug. People generally only know that long-term use of diazepam may cause adverse reactions to the central nervous system and toxic reactions to the kidneys and liver. It is now found that it may also have a serious impact on sexual function, especially after abuse addiction, the incidence of sexual dysfunction is extremely high. Women may experience irregular menstruation, affect ovulation, have a cold libido, and induce galactorrhea; In men, it can lead to sexual dysfunction and impotence. Prolonged use can cause testicular shrinkage and feminization of breasts.
