Will sperm quality decline? In recent years, the incidence rate of male infertility is increasing. It has also been reported that the quality of male sperm has generally declined. Can children be born after sperm quality is reduced?
In recent years, the sperm quality of Chinese men has shown a downward trend. As early as 2013, a survey by the Institute of Science and Technology of the National Population and Family Planning Commission found that the quality of male semen in China has declined at a rate of 1% per year, with a decline rate of more than 40%, especially in areas with high degree of industrialization.
Some people equate "declining sperm quality" with "infertility", which is too one-sided. Decreased sperm quality does not mean infertility. For example, although the number of sperm in some men is less than 20 million per milliliter, they can also be fertilized normally due to their strong athletic ability.
In fact, the criteria for judging the quality of normal and healthy male sperm include sperm volume, color, pH, sperm count, motility and other factors in addition to sperm quantity. The decline of sperm quality may be caused by bad habits. There is only one factor that affects sperm quality, which does not affect its fertility, and there is no panic. Only "azoospermia" or "severe oligozoospermia" can affect normal fertility.
Similarly, a qualified sperm is not necessarily fertile. We should know that there are many factors that affect infertility, such as genetic factors, chromosome abnormalities, endocrine abnormalities, autoimmune diseases, etc. Therefore, sperm quality is not the "iron standard" to judge whether normal fertility can be achieved.
