There are four main pathogenesis aspects of low back pain in traditional Chinese medicine
The "Suwen? Disease Energy Theory" states: "The Shaoyin meridian runs through the kidney and lungs, and now the lung meridian is the disease of the kidney. Therefore, the kidney is also a disease of low back pain." "Low back pain" is different from "low back pain", where the former refers to the pain and discomfort in the lower back, and the latter cannot support the soreness and weakness of the lower back after illness and fatigue. Low back pain is unbearable. The two should pay attention to the difference. Low back pain is not a disease, but a set of symptoms that can be caused by multiple reasons. Low back pain is a common disease, often coexisting with leg pain, and has a higher incidence among manual workers. Low back pain refers to pain in one or both sides of the lower back, which can even affect the spine.
Low back pain is one of the common symptoms of kidney disease. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that "the waist is the home of the kidneys", indicating a very close relationship between low back pain and the kidneys. Ancient literature points out: "The waist is the mansion of the kidneys, and if it cannot be shaken, the kidneys will be prepared. The characteristics of kidney deficiency and low back pain were pointed out.
There are four main pathogenesis aspects of low back pain in traditional Chinese medicine, as follows:
(1) Feel the cold and dampness:
Due to prolonged exposure to cold and humid environments, clothing that is damp and cold, and sweating from physical exertion, one can feel the evil of cold and dampness. Cold pathogenic factors condense and gather, causing obstruction of meridians and poor circulation of qi and blood, resulting in lower back pain.
(2) Feeling damp and hot:
During the long summer, dampness and heat alternate and evaporate, or cold and dampness accumulate for a long time, leading to stagnation and heat transformation. Feeling the evil and blocking the meridians can lead to lower back pain.
(3) Kidney deficiency loss:
Due to prolonged illness and kidney deficiency, the essence and energy of the kidneys are unable to nourish the muscles and meridians, causing low back pain. The pain is continuous and even more severe when encountering fatigue, with recurrent attacks, often seen in deficiency and internal syndrome.
(4) Qi stagnation and blood stasis:
Prolonged illness with kidney deficiency impairs the circulation of qi and blood in the meridians, causing blockage of the veins and blood stasis in the waist, resulting in pain. This low back pain is a mixture of deficiency and excess, with kidney deficiency as its root cause and qi stagnation and blood stasis as its criterion.
