Infertility patients account for about one-fifth of the outpatient volume
I have treated a relatively special infertility patient, "said Sun Zhongyi, Deputy Director of Urology at Daping Hospital. The patient's name is Lao Zhang, 65 years old. He remarried 15 years ago, and his remarried wife was only 20 years old at the time. As Lao Zhang had no children before, he soon gave birth to a boy one year after marriage, and Lao Zhang was very satisfied with his abilities. Afterwards, due to policy restrictions, Lao Zhang never thought of having another one.
But since the policy of having two children alone was lifted two years ago, Lao Zhang has wanted another one. Lao Zhang always believed that since he had already given birth to one, the second one was an easy task. However, after nearly two years of hard work, there was no movement at all.
In January this year, Lao Zhang, unable to sit still, came to Daping Hospital's urology department for help. After detailed examination, his sperm motility was very poor, that is, he suffered from asthenospermia. He needed to take medicine and conduct lifestyle intervention.
Especially since the implementation of the comprehensive two child policy on January 1st this year, there has been a sharp increase in the number of male patients who come to consult about the preparation of a second child. According to preliminary statistics, their department receives 30 infertile patients every day, accounting for about 20% of the total outpatient volume. Another one-third of infertile patients want a second child. These patients are mainly concentrated around the age of 40, and after semen examination, about 60% of them suffer from asthenozoospermia, which means that there are too few sperm that swim forward to promote pregnancy. The reasons for this include not only aging, but also alcohol consumption, staying up late, high work pressure, and reproductive system infections.
In fact, the urology department of many hospitals has ushered in a peak of medical treatment, of which a large number are elderly infertile patients who are preparing for the second child.
Decreased testicular function is the main cause
"Many patients don't understand how they can become infertile if they have given birth before." Jiang Hui, chairman of the andrology branch of the Chinese Medical Association and director of the andrology department of Peking University Third Hospital, said that according to statistics, there are about 15 million couples in China with infertility problems, not all of which are women's reasons, with men and women accounting for half.
Among them, the population preparing for a second child is mostly concentrated between the ages of 25-35. However, for men, aging can lead to a decrease in testicular function, as well as a decrease in the ability and quality of sperm production. In addition, older men are no more likely to have hypertension, diabetes, prostate and other diseases than when they were young, which will also have a negative impact on fertility.
Don't blindly take health products
What should I do in this situation? Sun Zhongyi suggests that male friends who want to prepare for a second child should first go to a regular hospital for a male health examination, which only requires semen analysis to determine their fertility level.
In addition, for first-time expectant couples, if both parties have been living regularly for more than a year without getting pregnant, they should go to the hospital for a check-up. However, for couples planning to have a second child, this time should be reduced by half, which is about six months. At the same time, both spouses should quit bad habits such as smoking, drinking, staying up late, and exercise more, all of which are helpful for pregnancy.
Experts also remind that men with infertility should not blindly take health supplements and traditional Chinese medicine. Eating supplements indiscriminately may actually harm men's health.
Supplement four types of elements for male infertility
Besides taking medication and changing lifestyle habits, what foods can you eat more? Experts have recruited citizens.
1. Multiple trace elements
As for minerals containing zinc, the development of male testes cannot be achieved without zinc supplementation. Once zinc is insufficient for a long time, it can lead to sperm scarcity and testicular atrophy. Therefore, what is better to eat for male infertility? High zinc foods, such as shellfish and oysters, can be eaten as much zinc as possible.
2. Add appropriate hormonal foods
Animal viscera contain many male hormone components, such as liver, kidney and bullwhip, which can promote the division and maturation of spermatogonium and is very helpful for spermatogenesis.
3. Protein and arginine foods
Protein is the main material for sperm production and differentiation, and the lack of protein supply can lead to problems in male sperm. Therefore, it is recommended to eat more high protein foods, such as beef and mutton, poultry, eggs, fish, soy products, etc; Lack of arginine can lead to azoospermia, so you can eat foods containing arginine, including fish, ginseng, beans, meat, etc.
4. Take more vitamins
Vitamins can enhance immune function and also promote reproductive function.
