In modern society, "singing about alcohol" is no longer the exclusive right of men, and women often attract men's attention by displaying their drinking capacity. But a study published in the latest issue of the American Psychological Research on Addiction Behaviors found that men do not appreciate women who "get drunk.".
The study surveyed 3616 college students from two American universities and found that women overestimated the ability of men to tolerate women's drinking. According to the traditional view, men can drink more than women.
But Dr. Joseph LaBrie, a psychology professor who led the study, believes that women have become increasingly drinkable in recent decades. Many women believe that drinking more alcohol increases sexual attractiveness and makes men more likeable, but this is a big illusion.
Researchers invited 18 to 25 year old college students from a church university in Los Angeles and the University of Washington to participate in an online survey.
Female college students are asked to answer a series of questions: In a specific event, such as a friend gathering, a celebration banquet, etc., do boys want their female partners to drink an appropriate amount of alcohol and can they accept the maximum amount of alcohol consumed by girls? As a girl, how much alcohol should she drink to attend an event with an average male friend, date alone with a male partner, and increase her sexual attraction to a male partner?
For male college students, they were asked about their true preferences as a comparison of female estimates.
The researchers also asked female college students to estimate the average amount of alcohol they consumed during a given week or month, such as March. Also estimate the average amount of alcohol consumed by girls throughout the school during a given week.
The results showed that 71% of female college students overestimated the true preference of male college students for female drinking at parties. The average estimate for girls exceeds the true preference of boys by 1.5 times.
26% of female college students believe that men want their girlfriend to drink more than 5 bottles of beer, while 16% of female college students believe that women who can drink are more sexually attractive to men. Their estimates all exceed twice the true preferences of men. The researchers also found that women who overestimate male preferences have experienced "binge drinking.".
As Dr. LaBrie said, there is a huge and dangerous difference between men and women on the issue of alcohol consumption. Although not all women simply attract men's attention through binge drinking, this can partly explain why women have been drinking more and more in recent years.
Perhaps many women will think that women's drinking is nothing, perhaps it is still a manifestation of elegance and charm. However, it is still advisable to advise women who are greedy and assertive. Drinking too much does not give you a higher status in the hearts of men, but it can be the beginning of danger and trouble.
