Psychologists Jaime Confer and Mark Cloud interviewed 718 college students (including 324 men), asking them to imagine that their lover had cheated, and then predict whether they would accept the apology of the other party and continue the relationship. Although the research did not explicitly require that the interviewees be heterosexual when recruiting, the interviewees were specially required to imagine that they were in a heterosexual relationship during the research.
The difference between men and women in this study is very significant. No matter how many times the interviewees were asked to imagine their lovers cheating, and no matter the number of people they imagined cheating, the results remained unchanged. The interviewees' own experience of cheating, whether as the cheating party or the betrayed party, has no impact on the results of the study. That is, men are more difficult to tolerate the affair between their girlfriend and the opposite sex, and women are unable to continue with a gay boyfriend.
The reason why men are more nervous about their girlfriend's sexual infidelity is that they will not be able to be sure that their children are born; For women, on the contrary, there is no doubt whether the child is his own. They are more anxious about whether the promise made by the father can be fulfilled. In addition, same-sex cheating shows the lack of intimacy and satisfaction between lovers, and more clearly reflects the experience of women being abandoned.
After all, women are emotional creatures, while men are logical creatures. On the contrary, men are most afraid of their partners and women of the opposite sex cheating.
