It's not too late to know now: We haven't discussed installing pants pockets on mobile phones to kill sperm
According to foreign media reports, a controversial research report suggests that keeping a mobile phone in a man's pocket can reduce sperm motility. In the study, male exposure to mobile phone radiation reduced normal sperm motility, while those who were rarely exposed to mobile phone radiation were not affected. Is this statement reliable?
Fiona Matthews, a researcher at the University of Exeter in the UK, said: "There is a huge global mobile phone user base, and the potential human harm caused by mobile phone radiation needs to be confirmed. This study strongly suggests that the radio frequency electromagnetic radiation generated by carrying a mobile phone in a pocket will have a negative impact on male sperm quality
However, many experts have questioned the results of this study, stating that more research is needed to determine the harm of mobile phone radiation on sperm production. Mobile phones emit electromagnetic radiation in the form of radio waves, and scientists have confirmed that high doses of ultraviolet and X-ray sources pose certain risks to the human body. However, scientists are still uncertain about the health threats caused by different types of radiation emitted by mobile phone radio waves.
Some studies have shown that mobile phone radiation is related to some health problems, such as headache, hypertension, increasing the incidence rate of cancer, and reducing male fertility. Currently, scientists have conducted a systematic analysis of 10 studies involving 1500 men, testing the relationship between mobile phone use and male fertility. Sperm quality is measured in three ways: motility, fertility, and sperm concentration. Afterwards, researchers divided male testers into two groups: those who were exposed to mobile phone radiation for less than one hour per day; Expose to mobile phone radiation for at least 1 hour per day.
Usually, male sperm maintain activity of 50-85%, but when exposed to electromagnetic radiation from mobile phones, sperm activity decreases by 8%, with sperm activity ranging from 42% to 77%; A 9% decrease in sperm fertility; The sperm concentration is not affected.
Researchers believe that the heat generated by electromagnetic radiation is an important factor leading to a decrease in male sperm motility. In male pockets, the heat released by mobile phones can increase testicular temperature. Research also suggests that an increase in scrotal and testicular temperature will have a negative impact on sperm quality.
Introduction
The study also stated that exposure to electromagnetic radiation can produce chemicals called reactive oxygen species (ROS), and an increase in ROS in cells can cause DNA damage. Currently, this latest research report is published in the International Journal of the Environment, which is published recently.
