How old is the most suitable age for circumcision? Is it true that the younger the better
Now there are many parents in the hospital who want to circumcise their children. In the past winter vacation, the urology department will be crowded with parents who come to consult about circumcision. What kind of condition needs circumcision? At what age is it appropriate to cut it off? Should I be hospitalized after circumcision Listen to urologists about this.
When do I need to circumcise?
Liu Haoxiang, attending urologist at Cangzhou Kowloon Hospital, said that nearly 30% of men worldwide have undergone circumcision. According to statistics, in North American countries, the male circumcision rate is about 80% or higher, and 65% of newborns in the United States undergo circumcision in hospitals. In China, the circumcision rate is less than 5%.
However, if there is difficulty urinating due to phimosis, repeated inflammation of the coronal sulcus of the glans, urinary tract infection, or too short or small penis, hypospadias, or concealed penis, it is necessary to come to the hospital as soon as possible for treatment. Specific circumstances require consultation with a specialist in a regular hospital before making a judgment.
Does circumcision need to consider age?
The age of circumcision is not a problem. People of any age can come to circumcise. However, for young boys before the age of 7, due to psychological reasons, most do not cooperate and generally require intravenous general anesthesia, which not only increases costs but also increases risks. Therefore, if the foreskin is not very serious, the doctor will advise the child to grow to an age that is willing to cooperate before considering surgery under local anesthesia.
Does circumcision require hospitalization?
The circumcision surgery is a small outpatient surgery that requires no hospitalization and allows you to get out of bed and go home after the surgery. The surgery lasted for a total of 10-15 minutes, and the pain was not very intense, like a sudden cut in the finger.
Before and after surgery, doctors will give anesthesia to the child, so that there will be no intraoperative pain and postoperative pain death. The operation was performed under local anesthesia. Generally, after returning home, they stay in bed for 2-3 days and can walk and go to school after 3 days, but they cannot do strenuous exercise. If infection does not occur, the wound will heal 7-10 days after surgery.
After surgery, wear loose and breathable underwear with the penis head up to reduce edema. Keep the wound dry and do not wet the gauze when urinating. Keep your diet light, and if equipped with painkillers, take them regularly. If the wound is swollen, painful, and bleeding, local cold compress with ice can be used to stop the bleeding. It is recommended to come to the hospital for further consultation 3 to 4 weeks after surgery.
Health Reminder:
Parents should note that after the surgical separation of the adhesion between the foreskin and glans, there will be continuous exudation of pale yellow secretions on the wound surface within 10 days. But parents need not panic. This is not suppuration, but rather exudation from the wound surface. Local cleaning can be carried out several times a day to timely remove the secretion from the glans, the inner plate of the foreskin, and the inner ring. Several times a day, the inner ring can be appropriately moved to prevent the inner ring from adhering to the glans, as well as the opened distal inner plate of the foreskin from adhering to the coronal groove of the glans again. If there is a recurrence of adhesion between the distal foreskin and the coronal sulcus of the glans after surgery, come to the hospital about a month after surgery or after the ring falls off, and promptly separate.
One month after surgery, there will be edema, and some scar edema will last from three months to six months, but generally disappear later. Therefore, parents need not be particularly nervous.
