People often attribute the secret of maintaining a marriage to factors such as "mutual attraction", "devotion", "patience", and "true love". European scientists have different opinions. They "romantically" link marital maintenance to objective factors such as the age, education level, and marriage history of both spouses, and develop the best "formula" for a happy marriage.
Follow up investigation
The study, entitled "Optimizing the Marriage Market," was published in the European Journal of Operational Research.
Experts involved in the study said that using this theoretical result can predict that the "short life rate" of some marriages is five times higher than that of other marriages.
Dr. Emmanuel Flanier of the University of Bath in the United Kingdom was one of the study participants and carefully studied the data of 1534 Swiss couples collected by investigators through interviews. Among these people are couples, as well as lovers who are seriously dating. Five years later, researchers successfully contacted 1074 of these couples to see who had parted ways with their "significant other.".
By analyzing the collected data on the age, education level, ethnicity, and emotional experience of couples, the researchers found that many breakup cases had the same characteristics.
"It seems that men and women choose their partners based on love, physical attractiveness, similar hobbies, beliefs, and shared values. However, the lifespan of a marriage also depends on a series of objective factors. Matching couples based on objective criteria such as age, education, and so on may reduce the divorce rate," the Daily Mail of England reported on the 24th, citing a research report.
