Frequent use of contraceptive pills has four major side effects and ten major contraceptive misconceptions that cannot be ignored
Contraceptive pills may be the most convenient and effective contraceptive method that does not affect sexual pleasure. However, this contraceptive method is not without taboos, nor is it 100% effective in achieving contraceptive effects. Women who frequently take birth control pills may experience different side effects, which can be broadly divided into four categories.
1、 Contraceptive pills can increase weight
Some women are unwilling to take birth control pills because they are afraid of drugs causing weight gain. Indeed, certain components in contraceptives can cause weight gain: androgens can cause excessive appetite or acne, especially during the first three months of taking oral contraceptives; The increase of estrogen level causes retention of water and sodium, thus leading to weight gain in the second half of the menstrual cycle; Progestogen promotes anabolism, leading to weight gain. It is worth mentioning that the incidence of weight gain is only about 15%.
2、 Long term use can cause discoloration on the face
Women who take medication for a long time may have butterfly spots on their cheeks like during pregnancy, which is pigmentation caused by estrogen. People who already have pigmentation during pregnancy are prone to developing it after using contraceptive pills, and it is related to sunlight exposure.
3、 Common early pregnancy reactions, changing contraceptive pills
Similar early pregnancy reactions are common, accounting for approximately 50% of the medication population. The symptoms are mostly severe and then mild, gradually disappearing later, which may be related to the gradual adaptation of the body. Manifestations include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, weakness, dizziness, and other early pregnancy reactions. It often occurs in the first to second weeks of medication. This reaction is related to the stimulation of the gastric mucosa by estrogen in contraceptive pills.
4、 Stop taking immediately to avoid Hypomenorrhea or amenorrhea
Many female friends experience a decrease in menstrual flow after taking birth control pills, reflecting what has happened to amenorrhea. Originally, birth control pills can cause underdeveloped endometrium, insufficient gland secretion, and therefore the endometrium cannot grow normally and become thinner, resulting in a decrease in menstrual flow. Some women do not experience retreating bleeding or amenorrhea after discontinuing the contraceptive pill due to its excessive inhibitory effect.
