The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine records: "At the age of forty, the yin and qi naturally decrease, leading to a decline in daily life." This means that as men age, the problem of kidney deficiency gradually worsens. Before the age of 50, physical exhaustion and excessive work pressure can easily lead to yin and yang imbalance in the kidneys; At the age of 50-60, there is a deficiency in the essence and qi in the kidneys, leading to a decrease in the body's resistance and sexual function; After the age of 60, the elderly begin to age rapidly, with more prominent symptoms of kidney deficiency and weaker physique. Tonifying the kidneys is equivalent to timely replenishing the "lamp" of the human body with "oil", allowing the flame of life to burn more warmly and persistently. Professor Lu pointed out that when using traditional Chinese medicine to tonify the kidney, it is necessary to first differentiate between symptoms and signs, and blindly tonifying the kidney without distinguishing between "yin deficiency" and "yang deficiency" is wrong. Elderly men should overcome the following misconceptions when tonifying their kidneys.
Taking medication indiscriminately regardless of yin and yang
Traditional Chinese medicine divides kidney deficiency into kidney yang deficiency and kidney yin deficiency, and different types of kidney deficiency must be treated using different methods. Some elderly men manifest as kidney yang deficiency (symptoms include fatigue and fatigue of the mind, soreness in the back, shortness of breath and weakness, fear of cold limbs, frequent nocturia), while others manifest as kidney yin deficiency (symptoms include restlessness and insomnia, dry mouth and throat, flushing of the complexion, and restlessness of the five hearts). Among elderly males, the majority are those with kidney yang deficiency. If yin deficiency supplements yang and yang deficiency supplements yin, not only will it not achieve the effect, but the more it supplements the disease, the more severe it becomes, and even serious diseases such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and hypertension can be induced. So before tonifying the kidney, it is necessary to first distinguish whether the constitution belongs to kidney yang deficiency or kidney yin deficiency, and choose kidney tonifying drugs that are suitable for the symptoms. People with kidney yin deficiency should take Liu Wei Di Huang Wan, Qi Ju Di Huang Wan, Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan, Er Zhi Wan, etc; People with kidney yang deficiency should take Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan, Ji Sheng Shen Qi Wan, Gui Ling Ji, Wu Zi Yan Zong Wan, etc.
It's not kidney deficiency, but also kidney tonifying
Professor Lu said that the concept of "kidney" in traditional Chinese medicine covers some physiological functions of the human reproductive, urinary, neurological, respiratory, skeletal, and endocrine systems, but it does not mean that problems with these systems are all caused by kidney deficiency. For example, the common impotence and premature ejaculation in elderly men are not only related to kidney deficiency, but also to damp heat, blood stasis, qi stagnation, etc. It is not a problem that can be solved solely by tonifying the kidney. In addition, kidney deficiency is an inevitable result of aging in the human body, and tonifying the kidneys in the elderly can only delay this process, alleviate the discomfort caused by kidney deficiency, and cannot completely reverse kidney deficiency. Therefore, it is unrealistic for elderly men to achieve the goal of "returning to youth" and "returning to youth" through kidney tonifying methods.
Due to the weak physique of the elderly, tonifying the kidney in summer should not be too severe. It should be done calmly and continuously. Try the following Tonic Diet: 10g raw Eucommia ulmoides and 10g Chuanduan (available in pharmacies), a pair of pig kidneys, 25ml Baijiu, and appropriate amounts of onion, monosodium glutamate, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, salt, and sugar. First, wash and cut the pork loin into kidney flowers and place them in a bowl. Add white sugar, salt, and sprinkle; Fry the Eucommia ulmoides and Chuanduan in a concentrated sauce and add them to the cashew. Heat up a wok over martial fire, stir fry the pork belly quickly, and then add seasoning to serve. Consume 1-2 times a week. This formula is suitable for tonifying the kidney and strengthening the waist, and is suitable for the soreness and weakness of the waist and knees, impotence, and premature ejaculation caused by kidney yang deficiency.
Medlar and yam Congee: take 20g medlar, 50g yam and 80g rice. Mash the yam, put it in the pot with medlar and rice, add some water and cook Congee for breakfast. Once a day, suitable for long-term consumption. This formula is applicable to dizziness, tinnitus, night sweating, and nocturnal emission caused by kidney yin deficiency, as well as waist soreness and leg weakness.
