The Hong Kong Food Safety Center recently conducted a random inspection of 256 food samples from 7 categories on the market, with 97% containing aluminum that affects animal reproductive and developmental systems, due to the use of aluminum additives in food manufacturing. The center warns that an adult weighing 60 kilograms who eats one muffin and steamed cake a week already consumes excessive amounts of aluminum, which may affect the reproductive and developmental systems, leading to testicular lesions.
Compared with Hong Kong people who like muffins and steamed cakes, mainland people like traditional breakfast deep-fried dough sticks and Steamed Chinese sponge cake. They all have one thing in common, that is, they use alum (aluminum) additives. Therefore, if couples of childbearing age eat deep-fried dough sticks and Steamed Chinese sponge cake for a long time, it is easy to cause the content of aluminum in the body to exceed the standard, leading to infertility.
In fact, aluminum is not an essential trace element for the human body, but we can come into contact with it every day. For example, if someone uses an aluminum pan to stir fry vegetables, adding some vinegar can easily lead to the dissolution of aluminum, which can enter the human body along with the food.
We also often eat food additives containing aluminum, such as deep-fried dough sticks, Steamed Chinese sponge cake and other foods just mentioned. When processing these foods, aluminum containing additives such as curing agents, anti bonding agents, and dyes are often used in order to shape and look good.
For young men in the reproductive period, if aluminum exceeds the standard in the body, it will lead to abnormalities in the testicular spermatogenic microenvironment, and the production or development of sperm will be blocked, eventually leading to the reduction of the number and quality of mature sperm, which will affect fertility. For women in childbearing period, excessive aluminum will lead to dysplasia of the fetus.
Meanwhile, research has confirmed that high levels of aluminum in food can lead to delayed development in children; Aluminum accumulation in the brain can also lead to gradual loss of memory and even dementia. So, both children and the elderly should avoid consuming too much aluminum.
As traditional food, deep-fried dough sticks and Steamed Chinese sponge cake can only satisfy the cravings but not be greedy. Each oil contains 10 mg of aluminum, two per day, which exceeds the standard after three days of eating.
In addition, if using aluminum cookware, do not hold salt, acid, or alkaline foods for too long to avoid chemical reactions that may spill more aluminum elements. Also, do not use steel wire balls or alkali to clean the aluminum pot.
