At the autumn equinox, eating pomegranates is a good way to have more children and happiness, and it can also stop diarrhea!
Entering the middle of autumn, the arrival of the autumnal equinox indicates that the day and night are even, and the cold and summer are easy. The true autumn has come to us.
The autumnal equinox sacrifices the moon. In the ritual of offering sacrifices to the moon, there is always a round and rolling pomegranate, which carries the meaning of "many children and many blessings.". And at this season's fruit stall, pomegranate is seizing a large amount of territory.
Pomegranate from afar
Although pomegranate has a long history of cultivation in China, its origin is from the Balkans to Iran.
However, long ago, pomegranate was introduced into our country, so that we feel that this fruit is native.
According to records, it was Zhang Qian who brought the pomegranate back to Chang'an when he was on an envoy to the Western Regions.
Regarding pomegranate, there are many records in ancient Chinese classics. The medicinal value of pomegranate is stated in "Records of Famous Doctors", and the cultivation points are described in "Qi Min Yao Shu". In the Compendium of Materia Medica, there are records of sweet pomegranates and sour pomegranates from all over the world.
"Health Saint" pomegranate fruit?
Nowadays, there is a lot of publicity around us about the "health care effect" of pomegranate, such as whitening and rejuvenating the skin, antioxidant, and anti aging. Pomegranate has become a "holy product for health care".
So, if we eat more pomegranates at ordinary times, can we achieve the magical effects of smoothing and softening the skin, resisting oxidation, and delaying aging?
Not so.
1. Whitening and rejuvenation are not reliable
Although the pomegranate flesh we eat looks tender, crystal clear, and fragile, just like delicate skin, eating pomegranate to whiten and rejuvenate our skin is just a beautiful vision of "replenishing the shape with the form.".
It is reported that eating pomegranate can whiten and rejuvenate the skin, because the content of vitamin C is very high, reaching 10 mg/100g, which is 2-3 times that of apples. It still looks good. However, if we carefully calculate, we will find that the content of vitamin C in this amount is less than 1/3 of that in Chinese cabbage.
Don't forget, the vitamin C content of apples is almost the lowest among common fruits, about 6 mg/100g. Dragging a dwarf as a reference is a common trick used by unscrupulous businesses. Don't be fooled.
2. Anti oxidation and anti aging are too farfetched
Indeed, pomegranate has a high content of polyphenols, including in its skin, seeds, and pulp. Some animal experiments have also shown that polyphenols have antioxidant and anti aging effects.
However, we need to recognize a problem: how much pomegranate must be consumed to achieve the effective dose in the experiment through eating.
Therefore, when you eat pomegranate, just make it sour and sweet, and don't think too much about "health functions.".
Astringent intestines and diarrhea relieving pomegranate peel
"Pomegranate is delicious and difficult to peel. If you accidentally eat the pomegranate's inner lining into your mouth, your tongue will simply become astringent and numb.".
This astringent taste comes from the tannic acid tannins contained in pomegranate peel, which can reach a content of 20% to 30% of the total weight. Tannin tannic acid can astringe the intestines and stomach, and play a role in stopping diarrhea. Therefore, pomegranate peel can alleviate diarrhea symptoms.
Not only the fruit peel, but also the bark, root bark, and even fruit juice of pomegranate are rich in tannins. Therefore, when diarrhea symptoms occur, eating some pomegranate can alleviate the symptoms.
In addition, we need to remind everyone that if you eat too much pomegranate, especially sensitive people, it can cause dry stools due to the astringent effect of tannins. Therefore, friends with constipation must avoid eating too much pomegranate.
Of course, tannic acid tannins have a slight antidiarrheal effect. If you encounter severe diarrhea, you still need to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
Swallow pomegranate seeds, don't worry
In fact, accidentally swallowing pomegranate seeds is not as scary as we imagined.
The hard seed coat of pomegranate allows the seeds to pass smoothly through the intestines, and prevents pomegranate seeds from sprouting and growing in the stomach. "Due to the small size of pomegranate seeds, it is difficult to block the intestines without swallowing the seeds in whole bowls.".
Pomegranate seeds contain a large amount of unsaturated fatty acids, which can account for 97% of the total fatty acid content. This sounds like a healthy choice, but it has no essential difference compared to the familiar soybean oil, rapeseed oil, and peanut oil. Therefore, there is absolutely no need for people to spend a lot of money to buy Mo, which has a "magical" effect.
